When the weather turns hot, two fabrics come up again and again: linen and cotton. Both are breathable and both are natural, but they feel and behave differently. This guide helps you choose, and explains why a polyester blend is usually the wrong pick for a hot day.
1. Linen
Linen is made from the flax plant. It is very breathable, dries fast and feels cool against the skin, which is why it is a classic summer fabric.
- Pros: airy, light, dries quickly, gets softer with every wash.
- Cons: it creases easily and feels a little crisp when new. The creases are part of its look.
Example: the Wing Blouse is listed as 100% linen.
2. Cotton
Cotton is soft from the first wear, absorbs moisture and is easy to wash. It creases less than linen, so it looks neater with less effort.
- Pros: soft, breathable, easy care, available in knits and woven fabrics.
- Cons: it holds moisture longer than linen, so it dries more slowly.

3. And polyester?
Polyester is durable and keeps its shape, but it breathes less and can feel warm in hot, humid weather. Some products are blends of cotton and polyester. That is fine, but read the composition on the product page so you know what you are buying.
4. Which one for which day?
- Very hot and humid days: linen, because it dries fast and lets air through.
- Everyday office or casual wear: cotton, for a neater look with less ironing.
- Travel: cotton, or a linen blend, if you do not want to iron.
5. How to care for them
- Linen: wash cold or at around 30°C, inside out. Dry in the shade. Iron while still slightly damp if you want a smooth finish, or leave the relaxed creased look.
- Cotton: wash cold or warm, skip fabric softener and avoid high heat in the dryer to prevent shrinking.
