Women's Pajama Sets: Viscose, Cotton or Polyester?

Pajamas are the clothes you wear for the longest hours, so the fabric matters more than the print. This guide compares the three fabrics you will see most often: viscose, cotton and polyester.

1. Viscose

Viscose is a soft, smooth fabric made from plant fibres. It drapes nicely, feels cool and has a slightly silky touch.

  • Good for: summer and warm bedrooms, and pajamas you also wear around the house.
  • Care: it is more delicate when wet. Wash gently in cold water, do not wring it hard and dry in the shade.

Example: the Leopard Print Pajama Set is listed as 100% viscose.

2. Cotton

Cotton is breathable, soft and hard-wearing. It is the safest choice if you sleep warm or have sensitive skin.

  • Good for: all year, especially summer.
  • Care: easy. Wash cold or warm and avoid high heat in the dryer so it does not shrink.

Example: the Heart Print Cotton Pajama Set, listed as 60% cotton, 35% polyester and 5% lycra.

3. Polyester

Polyester is durable and keeps its shape wash after wash, and it is warmer than cotton. That makes it comfortable in winter, but it can feel hot in summer.

  • Good for: winter sets.
  • Care: easy. Wash at a low temperature and avoid high heat.

Example: the Homey winter pajama set, listed as 95% polyester and 5% lycra.

4. How to choose

  • Summer: viscose or cotton.
  • Winter: a polyester or a cotton blend with long sleeves and trousers.
  • Sensitive skin: cotton, and check that the label states the composition.
  • Sizing: pajamas should be roomy. If you are between sizes, take the larger one. See our size guide.
